Stephen E. (Steve) Henry of Las Cruces previously served on the NMWF board of directors, and is an officer and/or member of the Wild Turkey Sportsmen Association of Las Cruces, New Mexico Wild Turkey Federation, Southwest Consolidated Sportsmen, Dona Ana County Associated Sportsmen, Mesilla Valley Audubon Society, and New Mexico Wilderness Alliance. He is a member of the Game and Fish Department’s Southwest Citizens Advisory Committee for the Habitat Stamp Program and the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Advisory Board. He also served on the Valles Caldera Trust Board of Trustees, first as secretary and then chairman. Steve was a career employee of the Department of Game and Fish, starting as a game warden in Santa Rosa in 1978. He worked his way up through the ranks to become the agency’s wildlife disease specialist, assistant chief of the Fisheries Division’s research section, Fisheries Division Director, then director of the Southwest Area Field Operations Division. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from New Mexico State University and a masters in veterinary pathology from Colorado State University.
