NMWF to Hold Hero’s Day Fishing Event, September 10th in Rio Grande del Norte National Monument

September 8, 2016

For immediate release

ALBUQUERQUE – During this weekend of national significance, the New Mexico Wildlife Federation is honored to host a Hero’s Day to acknowledge our active military, veterans, first responders, and their families for a day of fishing, prizes, and a cookout. All are welcome at the John Dunn Bridge fishing area in the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument on Saturday, September 10th from 10 am to 4 pm to learn and practice fly-fishing, enjoy our public lands, and honor all of those who have served our country.

Our public lands have played a big part in the lives of many veterans and first responders as a place to heal and reflect. NMWF is excited to bring together New Mexicans who have served our communities and country with a day to connect with each other and the outdoors.

“Our veterans, active military, police, firefighters, and their families make enormous sacrifices for our local communities as well as our country,” said New Mexico Wildlife Federation Executive Director Garrett Vene Klasen. “Thanks to them, we all have amazing public lands to recreate in and we’re thankful to have this opportunity to thank them in some small way. We hope Hero’s Day will bring awareness to our veterans, police officers, and firefighters and honor those who have served with a fun day spent in the outdoors.”

The New Mexico Wildlife Federation thanks Larry H. Miller Toyota, Big 98.5, the Taos Fly Shop, Not Forgotten Outreach, and the David Westphall Veterans Foundation for their sponsorship and support of this event.

This event is free to the public. Please join us starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 10 at John Dunn Bridge fishing area. John Dunn Bridge is located north of Taos and just south of Arroyo Hondo, NM off Highway 522. Just south of Arroyo Hondo about 10 miles north of Taos, take a left heading west on Lucero Road (County Road B-007), which takes you all the way to the Rio Grande and John Dunn.
