ALBUQUERQUE – United States Senator Tom Udall will join the New Mexico Wildlife Federation on a hike through Bandelier National Monument with local Albuquerque Boy Scouts and students in the Pueblo Pathways Project at the Santa Fe Indian School on Friday, October 7th. The hike is an exciting opportunity for local students to discuss environmental stewardship, education, and public lands with their Congressional representative.
Bandelier National Monument is an amazing example of the importance of public lands and how they can help local communities protect Native culture. NMWF is dedicated to increasing access to our national parks and public lands for diverse communities so all youth and their families can take advantage of educational and recreational opportunities. By giving young people of all backgrounds the opportunity to experience the outdoors, the New Mexico Wildlife Federation hopes to build the next generation of conservationists.
“Having the senior Senator join us on public lands at Bandelier with a diverse group of students is a real honor,” said Executive Director Garrett Vene Klasen. “We look forward to the opportunity to connect young people with their elected officials in the outdoors while learning about each other’s cultures and values and how we can all engage more young people in outdoor activities and stewardship.”
NMWF staff, Udall, and students will hike beginning at 10 am, stopping for lunch along the way. At 1 pm press will have the opportunity to ask questions and take group photos at the visitor’s center. The group will depart at 2 pm.
