Rafting the Rio Chama
NMWF is excited for our next rafting trip! Our last trip on the Rio Grande was a huge success and we’re sure this one will be too!
This rafting trip uses outdoor recreational activity to connect kids, teenagers, and families with New Mexico’s land, water, and wildlife. Through cross-cultural youth activities like this, we hope to provide experiential and hands-on educational opportunities to New Mexico’s children and help them gain a deeper understanding of the importance of conservation and protecting New Mexico’s public lands and watersheds.
By creating conversations around conservation and using outdoor recreation to connect New Mexico’s diverse communities, we hope to teach and learn from these youth about New Mexico’s rich cultural landscape and explore how culture arises from and continues to inform our understanding of New Mexico’s land, rivers, and wildlife.
Inline with our youth initiatives, this trip is also a great way to get underprivileged youth from throughout central and northern New Mexico into the outdoors. With revisions to all five New Mexico forests currently underway, this trip also gives us the opportunity to discuss the significance of the Santa Fe National Forest and the importance of community and sportsmen participation in the Forest Plan revision process.
