CAJA DEL RIO — Staffers at the New Mexico Wildlife Federation escorted a group of students from Western Colorado University on a tour of Caja del Rio, La Bajada Mesa and El Camino Real on Sunday, April 14.
Jesse Deubel, executive director of the NMWF and Jeremy Romero, coordinator of wildlife corridors with the NMWF and National Wildlife Federation, escorted the group.
Most of the students are pursuing master’s degrees in environmental management. Deubel and Romero instructed the group about the human history in the areas, pointing out the dense presence of antiquities.
The group also discussed local flora and fauna. Many students said they believed the areas need to be protected because of its rich cultural and historical significance.
